Keith: On the other side of the park lies Barbeau Peak. There, the terrain is colder and more mountainous. We are on this mountain ridge, but not quite the summit.
Eugene Douglass: We temporarily exchanged our dragonfly bikes for cross country skis.
Hyung: We made it to base camp, skiing part of the way and trekking with skins on our skis the rest of the way.
Slate: This is not a place for much wildlife. We met some serious mountaineers, though. It is a popular time to try and summit this very technical and icy mecca.
Mac: We won’t push our luck. Instead, we visited the austere park information center. There is a lot of information on mountaineering, and the efforts to summit this peak. There is also a more general display about Nunavut.
Eugene Douglass: The park rangers and our Greenlandic friends had a good discussion, whose content we could only follow peripherally. We ski away from the ice and barren lands. It is time to say goodbye to the Arctic, beloved and magical beyond imagination.
