We were riding on our mantis tricycles, from Hillborough to the coast. Riding down an old road followed the Wilson River through the Tillamook Forest. We sped ahead, declining an option to do some ferocious whitewater rafting.
It was actually pretty calm and scenic, passing firs, spruce and salal.
We are not sure what happened next. Somehow, a grizzly bear crashed into Mac and knocked over his mantis. Ann was behind him and rode into the bear. Eugene used his phaser to stun the bear. The bear has died.
Mac is looks pretty bad lacerations to his leg and torso. A drone came with first aid, and they took him back to a hospital in Portland.
What it is about Mac and bears is unknowable, but a grizzly bear is not what you want attacking you.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mac.
