Out of the ocean, the new Spanish sailors surfaced in Santa Marta on the coast under a mountain named the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. We met people called Kogi (meaning jaguar), who now run the administration of this area.
This ecosystem they call home varies abruptly from coastal rainforest to alpine, and it was more vulnerable than any other in the world. Changes in weather have battered wildlife. Still, the Kogi believe in maintaining what life is left.
They believe in black lines, invisible threads of primordial thought and lifeforce that criss-cross the planet to form a connected network. The Kogi warmly welcomed us planetary travelors. However, we strickly must stay off the mountain.
