The long string of denial at the beginning pounding my head, I was trying to think of a way to respond. Then, it was Jimmy Kimmel’s turn. Ok, I’ll just let him respond for me; I don’t need the stress.
I know he got his start in talk radio. Is there an impartial juror that can tell me he is as bad as right-wing talk radio?
As I mentioned before, I love how Greta Thunberg speaks in a straightforward way. Jimmy speaks in a brilliant, stress relief way. I feel like I need Jimmy as a friend.
I remember sitting next to my friend on a bus about 15 years ago. I was the one concerned about global warming, and he was making statements like the ones at the beginning of ‘No Planet Be’ (that I started this post with).
My friend has a Christian point of view – that in everything we should depend on God’s grace. And I was talking of the need for everyone to control their behavior. From his perspective, that is impossible. Dr. Hayhoe is also a Christian. I watched this video, eager to hear Dr. Hayhoe’s response.
Then she spoke of fitting all of the CEOs responsible for global warming into three buses. And now, I am thinking my friend may have had a point. You can’t get everybody to change their habits. This is a topic, the subconscious and determinism, that I have been blogging about. We need the people in power to lead this change.
I am a fan of Dr. Hayhoe. Actually, I have been following her on Facebook. This segment definitely pleased me.
Rating: Very Moving
One thought on “Climate Night – Kimmel”
So, I found a judge who was critical of this type of segment. His point would probably be that the climate scientists in the opening segment appear condescending to the portion of the public that needs persuading. Fair enough criticism. Many of my friends on the other side would probably reply, “I don’t watch Kimmel.” However, after the opening humor, Kimmel did have on Dr. Hayhoe, addressing the criticism, while pivoting to mo.re inclusive discussions. https://youtu.be/6evV9YSiW9U
