We want to get close to sealife but not put ourselves in danger.
The mammals that we spot need to come to the surface to breathe:
beluga whales bobbing their head up and down,
narwhals giving us a glimpse of their tusks,
humpback whales breaching magnificently,
and seals scurrying away.
These are nature’s great spectacles. And sometimes in the midst of all of this, the action motivates polar bears to attempt something heroic. Diving in, they hunt whales underwater. Humans also feel the urge but are too wise for that. The impulse remains and builds within us.
