This is the account of our ice water rafting.
We took the Turquoise Line down the west coast of Greenland. The ice-free land along the coast is hundreds of miles wide. Then we transferred on a radial line to a stop, about a 10 km hike up a glacier.
We made the hike wearing snowshoes and were exhausted.
After signing the papers and resting for about 7 hours, we were ready to go ice water rafting.
Everything was going smoothly. Hyung was sitting in the back, calling out orders. We were paddling in sync.
That is when disaster struck. Our raft was stuck on something below. We were all on one side trying to paddle away when another boat came down from another direction – crash.
Our raft overturned on top of most of our crew. We were freezing in the water.
But it was our great fortune that the other group pulled us out of the water, righted our raft, stripped, and gave us their clothes.
Not much later, a drone was on the way with blankets and medical supplies. During that time, we bonded with members from the other raft. They are Kalaallit, natives of west Greenland.
We are having dinner together.
