On this stage, we cycled for hours to Lake Helen. There, the Great Lakes Administration is run by the Ojibwa people.
We spent the following day learning about the Ojibwa culture and its ways. We are subjected to their laws as we ride through these wild lands around the Great Lakes.
The 7 Teachings are:
humility to see oneself as equal to others in a family or clan, and to all of humanity and all species on Earth; respect for the ecosystems that have been created and support us; wisdom to understand one’s role in society and how a civilization can be sustainable; honesty with oneself and in reporting on the problems of society; love by making every effort to find the root of social, mental, physical, and spiritual problems; bravery and courage to help those in need and restore fairness to society; the truth about the way, written extensively on the internet.
We also asked about punishment because we are under their laws. The Ojibwa system is more about restoration than retribution. Punishment is sometimes necessary. Usually, this involves loss of face. Further, there could be monetary fines. And rarely, a person can be banished from the lands. Hypothetically, a criminal could be executed.
