Minimalist Nature Paths

I like the coconut coir mats they put down on mountain paths. They are biodegradable, have good color, make for cushiony steps, and last very well. As I recall, hiking in Korean mountains is a stroll in the garden, not an adventure.

Putting down coconut coir mats is part of a process – to preserve the 80 percent of S. Korean land that is mountain forest, while showing great care to the hikers.

Eighty percent of S. Korean lands are mountain forests. Putting down these mats shows care to the hikers.
But, I was intrigued by the idea from the movie, A Quiet Place. Cover dirt paths with sand. This would be an ultra minimalist approach. Just rake off the loose rocks and spread sand on the hiking path.

Ok, I know the sand would stick to the hikers. But, the hiking paths here also have pressurized air at the entrance. So maintaining them would involve collecting the sand at the bottom of the hiking path. Over time you could redistribute it onto the hiking path. It might lead to interesting patterns.
