We stayed the night on the hill looking over Quito. The hope is to get our surfer heroes acclimated to the high altitude.
It was a brutally cold night. Hard to say how much Tulsi and Z were affected, but we raced down to the road to another volcano, Cotopaxi.
We were on a mountain stage through a glorious landscape. And through the clouds, riding the wind currents, came the biggest bird we have ever seen – an Andean Condor. It was quite a sight.
We finished the race to the Cotopaxi base camp at Jose Rivas Refuge with the sun still in the sky.
For us, finding this refuge is like finding gold.
