Urban Agriculture 2

This https://www.youtube.com/user/kirstendirksen/videos is the voice of a FedEx aircraft mechanic who has been tinkering for over 50 years. For people who enjoy the process, and fine-tuning the process, this video is for you. I also noticed no politics in his talk, another thing I aspire to.

As the video begins, he climbs the steps of a building and onto the roof. This is the image I have of urban agriculture. As one of Le Corbusier’s 5 points, the building should give back the space it takes up on the ground, with the roof garden. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1womjgDI_I

I hope you appreciate this sensual video. He preserves his grain in beer, “You don’t want to be around when this starts to go off.” And, he has found that the grain is preserved when kept below the beer line. He shows how to filter with crayfish; how to solarize the poultry beds against pests; and how the poultry is part of the soil’s cyclical nitrogen nutrient maintenance.

The Old English Garden, Streatham Common for TQ3070
The Old English Garden forms part of the Rookery a garden laid out in 1912 on the site of an old house. The Old English Garden occupies the former walled kitchen garden. The gateway in the wall takes visitors through to the White Garden.  Stephen McKay

I was impressed by his front yard. In the suburb where I grew up, the codes for a front yard would not have permitted this. Being in Los Angeles, there is enough sunshine. I wondered if there was enough water, though. Most of the water is imported from nearby mountains. https://watertalks.csusb.edu/where-does-my-tap-water-come-from I hope one day they will get their water from the ocean.
