Our Great National Parks, episode 5, Gunung Leusor, Indonesia.

This is the message that Obama wants to give in episode 5. But, I think he wants to avoid sound bites. Habitat loss, poaching, and climate change are leading to a collapse of wildlife on Earth; and wildlife has been halved in his and my lifetime. https://www.netflix.com/kr-en/title/81086133

Back when he and I were young men, there were no Netflix series. We did have TV miniseries, though. And one of my favorites was based on Stephen Kings, The Stand. https://youtu.be/7zH_QMp5dak “Help us be true, oh lord. Help us to stand.”

When I was a bicycle messenger in Pittsburgh, we would ride through the Armstrong Tunnel (not the safest idea). One of the pivotal scenes from The Stand was filmed in that tunnel. It was the first time I had seen this type of scene in a movie: a traffic jam of abandoned cars showing the result of an epidemic. The protagonists make their way through the jam, becoming aware its scope. And they leave the tunnel with determination.

This is the response I feel, as we watch the conservation of habitat, Gunung Leusor National Park.

This last episode also echoes my last post envisioning future travel. https://wildlandstour.com/eugenes-post/
