the Late Late Climate Night

James Corden had a good segment about what individuals on his show, and elsewhere, are doing about climate change. Ian is still driving the same Prius. Good on you, Ian.

The focus of the internet is on the big energy companies, but these individual attitudes are also important. In my view of the level of difficulty for global action: addressing Covid19 is a level one difficulty; addressing climate change is a level two difficulty; and restraining our global population to avert an extinction event is a level three. My reasoning is that people don’t want to die, so wearing a mask and getting vaccinated does not require much empathy. With climate change, more people now are getting affected, and we can avoid a climate crisis simply by more sustainable and affordable technological advances. Extinction, however, involves there being too many people, and not enough habitat. Next to no one wants to talk about this situation.

So, I believe it is going to take individuals being proactive and cooperating, the ones James shows here, to avoid extinction of much of the life on Earth.
